Our Story

A Family That Builds for the Divine

The Sompura family has served as hereditary temple architects for over three centuries. Rooted in Patan, Gujarat — the ancient capital of the Chandra Varsi — our lineage is one of the last unbroken chains of Sthapati knowledge in the world.

Upen Sompura

Carrying forward his father's vision, Upen Sompura became the most celebrated temple architect of his generation. His portfolio spans over 80 temples across 12 Indian states and three countries. He is widely regarded as one of the last true Sthapatis — architect, priest, and craftsman in one.

Our Philosophy

Four Pillars of Sacred Architecture

Vastu Shashtra

Science of Sacred Space

Vastu Shashtra is the traditional Hindu system of architecture that dictates the alignment, proportion, and orientation of sacred structures. Every Sompura temple begins with a precise Vastu analysis — the direction of the main entrance, the placement of the sanctum, the orientation to cardinal points. This is not superstition but a deeply reasoned science developed over millennia, ensuring the structure channels cosmic energy to its worshippers.
